Remain In the Same House (Stay Connected)

Scripture Text Message

Many years ago, as I began witnessing, Luke 10 became a very important scripture containing much wisdom and direction from God. Verse 7 was one that especially caught my attention. Before I read it, I thought I was supposed to go to as many houses as I could. But then I realized what Jesus said to the 72 disciples he sent out:

And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. Luke 10:7

Interestingly, Jesus told them not to go from house to house. They were to remain where they were welcomed. This is easily understood when you are meeting someone at their house. But what about when you meet them elsewhere, like on a city street?

My overall understanding is that Jesus wants us to stay connected with people to help them through the process of becoming his disciples. One of the main ways I do this when I meet someone on the street is to offer to exchange phone numbers with them and to send them scriptures on a daily basis. Occasionally when I have not heard from them, I send a message asking if they want to keep receiving the text messages. One young lady recently responded with this:

“i’m really thankful i ran into you in the city, at the time i was in a really bad space and you guys brought me closer not just to God, but also myself.

the card you gave me was a message and a sign. i don’t know if you remember me but those two guys i was around weren’t Godly men. they were out stealing cars, taking peoples things that were hardly worked for and earned, and every time i brought God up, it got shut down or talked about how bad he is because the place of life they were in. now they’re in jail, and ever since i just thought that God brings challenges in life to test patience and courage. God brings challenges to his strongest children.  they’re not in my life or in my presence.

if you guys never ran into me, i would probably still be in the same place i was at the time.

i truly truly thank you for these scriptures, if i ever have questions i know who to go to…truly you saved me and God did also.

I hope you have a blessed night!”
