Do What Jesus Did! (DWJD)
In part 1 of “What is a disciple?” I laid the foundation for the necessity of answering the question, “What did Jesus do? As I endeavoured to answer this question many years ago, I came up with twelve significant aspects of what Jesus actually did and taught his disciples to do. These items are:
He discipled people and called them to make disciples
He went to deserted places, prayed, and fasted
He taught repentance and baptism
He baptized with the Holy Spirit and with fire
He taught about the Kingdom of God
He taught the selling of possessions and giving to the poor
He ate with sinners and tax collectors
He sought and saved the lost
He healed the sick
He cast out demons
He loved and prayed for His enemies & commanded His followers to do the same
He served in humble, simple tasks like washing dirty feet
Jesus’ command to make disciples led me to develop these items into a twelve lesson study guide on discipleship entitled “Discipleship Training Manual.” A free downloadable copy of this manual can be found in the resource section of this website.
This training manual was created to help people study and reflect on scriptures that show central aspects of what Jesus did and taught his disciples to do. The lessons include ideas to help the reader learn more about each topic and put into practice the actions and teachings of Jesus. The manual could be used in a small group setting but is predominantly designed for the believer who does not have the available time or money to attend a discipleship training school. The booklet can be completed individually at the pace of the reader. The study time depends on how much time the reader desires to put into each topic.
